HAPPY PI DAY!

We celebrated Pi Day with pizza and pie! Thank you again to all the parents who helped out by donating pies, paper plates, napkins and forks! In our classes, students brought in objects that we traced and then found the circumference and diameter of these objects. We then added, subtracted, multiplied and divided these two numbers. We collected this data from all students in the class until we found a pattern. That pattern was pi! 3.1415..... We found that it was the ratio between the circumference and the diameter! We had some students memorize digits of pi! The winner in the 1st-4th grade group was a 3rd grader who memorized 51 digits and the runner-up was also a 3rd grader who memorized 48! In the 5th-8th grade group, the winner was a 5th grader who memorized 146 digits and the runner-up, also a 5th grader, memorized 127! Awesome!!
We also created pictures using the symbol pi and tried to make a perfect circle by drawing one freehand! Some students, however, were a bit irrational that day.....

Giving a Hi Pi!
